Mission Sunday was celebrated on Sunday October 20, 2024 by Catholics all over the world. Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary did not lag behind in this great celebration as she specially owes her history to the missionary efforts of early SMA priests and remains an institution of Propaganda Fide of the Holy See. The theme of this year’s celebration, “Go and invite everyone to the banquet”, was realized in the Seminary as many young people, from various walks of life, were invited to the Seminary for a Mission Outreach.
The programme was divided into three sessions. The sacrifice of the Holy Mass preceded by 10am. The Mass was well attended by members of the Holy Childhood Association from various parishes in Ibadan, seminarians from St Theresa’s Minor Seminary, Oke-Are and members of various male and female religious congregations in Ibadan.
The second session, which was in the Auditorium, was no less interesting as it included the enthronement of the Bible, the presentation of drama and dance by various groups, and a talk titled “A Church that goes forth: the Discipleship of Young People in the Mission of the Digital Church” delivered by Rev. Fr Vincent Anuniru of Ibadan Archdiocese. Then representatives of twenty-eight male and female religious congregations gave brief introduction of their congregations, inviting any interested youth to meet them afterwards.
The third segment was the variety show, which involved all who came for the celebration. Various games were held to the fun and thrill of all participants. The various colours of the world’s continents, as usual with the Pontifical Mission Societies, were represented in the occasion. It is our prayer that the Lord of the Mission will continue to draw all to give generously for the mission.
