The long-awaited Ugiedo week (slated for March 11th-17th, 2024) was set in motion on the night of 10^th March, 2024 with a suspenseful awareness scheme consisting of short drama and the announcement of the program of events for the week. This was in the Student’s refectory. This Ugiedo week is the 7^th edition of its kind and it was themed Edo N’imose which translates as “Edo is Beautiful.”

            The first programme for the week was the film show in the Lecture Theatre which featured the movie “Invasion 1897”. The film show was attended by a good number of seminarians. On Thursday, between the hours of 4pm and 7pm, there was a friendly football match between the Benin Provincial Seminarians and the Ibadan/Lagos Provisions Seminarians. Invigorated by the celebration of their own culture, the Benin province defeated the Ibadan/Lagos province, 3 – 0. On Friday, there was the Benin Week lecture at the seminary auditorium which was titled “Re-incarnation in the Benin Culture: any seed for the Word?” The lecture paper, though prepared by Rev. Fr. Dr. Idahosa Amadasun, was presented by Rev. Fr. Evaristus Abu – who also made very significant personal contributions. The lecture was ably moderated by Dr. Francis Amenaghawon. Owing to the topical nature of the lecture, there were a good number of contributions from the audience.

            The high point of the weeklong celebration was the grand-finale and cultural extravaganza that was held on Sunday, March 17^th, 2024. This was however, preceded by the Holy Mass which celebrated by Very Rev. Fr. Pascal Omono who ably represented the Archbishop of the Benin City Metropolitan See – Most Rev. Dr. Augustine O. Akubeze. The grand-finale lined up cultural performances – dances, drama, singing and speeches. Such beautiful performances were greeted with applauds from the audience as well contributions and gifts. The sumptuous Benin traditional meals were served and enjoyed by those present. The entire celebration came to an end at about 3:30pm as seminarians of Benin Archdiocese bade their guests farewell with smiles on the faces of everyone.
